Radio Local Hero Awards 2024 took place on Saturday 6 July at The Cedars in Barnstaple, celebrating the exceptional achievements and resilience of local heroes.

茄子影院 proudly sponsored the Young Person of the Year (under 16) award, honouring extraordinary young individuals who have demonstrated exceptional achievement. This year, the award was presented to a particularly special young man, Swaley.

Nominated by his dedicated teacher, Sharon Ernest, Swaley embodies the very essence of the award. Despite losing his sight in 2022 and returning to last September unable to see, Swaley has shown remarkable courage and determination. His story is one of triumph over adversity; unable to recognize shapes, colours, or even light, what would be devastating and traumatic for most people only fueled Swaley鈥檚 resilience. His unwavering spirit and achievements serve as an inspiration to many.

Jaime Wilson, Head of Communications at 茄子影院, expressed deep admiration for Swaley, stating: “It was an honour to be a part of The Local Hero Awards evening. Swaley represents everything that the Young Person of the Year category encapsulates. His resilience and determination are truly inspirational.”
